Is anyone else being prompted to upgrade to IE8? I am, and I have version 8.0.6001

According to the Official IE Blog, for PC that still runs IE6 or IE7, a notification regarding the availability of IE8 will be available through Automatic Update. The priority differs for the type of operating system. For Windows XP and Server 2003, the update will be High Priority. On the other hand, on Vista and Server 2008 will be marked as Important Update.
