No, it just won't recognise it or be able to read it.
It's not the same as putting, say, a data cd in an audio player. Blu-Ray's data tracks are thinner since they are read with blue laser rather than red. Blue has a shorter wave length than red so the laser will just disperse and not read anything. It'll be like inserting a dvd-shaped piece of plastic.

And if you afraid damage the blu ray dvd, you can convert blu ray dvd to video and play it on computer, the DVD converte which can convert dvd to ps3 can help you http://www.daniusoft.com/dvd-to-ps3.html#115

This will not cause any damage to the drive or the disc. The only thing that will happen is the DVD drive will become confused and error out.

No; nothing in either BluRay or DVD players comes in physical contact with the disc or changes it. These disks are read by lasers only and a BluRay disc in a DVD player would simply give you an "Unable to read disc" or similar error. There would be no damage.

No, it won't. If it is a DVD for movies, the only that'll happen is that you'll get a message that the disk cannot be read.

No, it will not damage the Blu ray disc.

And you can rip the dvd to standard videos with the ps3 dvd converter which can convert dvd to hd video

As everyone else has said, no damage will occur.

It is written in a different format (like a different spoken language), and will simply not be able to understand it.
