i bought a new mp3/mp4 player that supports mini sd cards. but i've only seen 2gb. so my?is. will a micro sdhc work the same? what's the dif

Does your player support Mini SDHC cards? if so that's what you need to buy.
Mini and Micro SD cards are different sizes (mini is bigger than micro). You could possibly use a micro SD card with a Micro to Mini adapter (they do exist).

That being said, you need to find out if your player supports only SD or SDHC. SDHC stands for SD High Capacity - by definition any card larger than 2GB is SDHC and any card smaller than 2gb is SD. The vast majority of devices these days support SDHC so yours probably will, unless it's older, or incredibly cheap.
