How fast would you like your PC to boot up?

Would a 20 second boot time be fast enough time?

I agree with drmatt. Less time to boot up is better in this case.
One relatively new technology and related to faster boot times and I find personally interesting is Phoenix Technology's Hyperspace product which is marketed as "instantaneous on/off".

I have not seen it for myself or evaluated first hand but it is on my list of
interesting technology to explore. Not sure how this type of product fits
a subscription model.

Here is an external review on the technology:

10 seconds or less. That'll soon be a reality, with flash boot drives and OSes that can load extraneous stuff in the background after the essentials have booted.

What OS will load in 10 seconds or less?

XP and Vista are announcing a possible boot time of 20 seconds.

Are you referring to the "Phoenix Technology's Hyperspace" technology?

Okay... this question seems to be misphrased. I think what you are trying to ask is: "How long of a boot time would you tolerate?"... or something to that effect since, if anyone were to answer this question, it would all be the same: ZERO. I would want my boot time to be instantaneous...

How much could I tolerate? I related that to one of my favorite quotes: "The length of a minute depends on which side of the bathroom door you are standing." It's all relative... (Thanks, Einstein!)

I would prefer boot times to be as quick as possible, but I can tolerate a minute or three. First, I rarely boot my machine. I leave them on. Second, I recognize that I have to give a machine time to boot, so I organize my life accordingly. There is rarely an instance that I need my machine to boot quickly.

There is also rarely an instance that I'll improve my life in any way by making the yellow light...
