My guess would be never. Renewables are about 6% of our total usage. Of that, about 1% is solar. About 50% is biomass and waste. This is the area that will probably continue to contribute the largest amount of renewable energy. As landfills are filled, there will be more pressure to reuse waste. This is probably where we will get most of the energy from renewables. I think that solar will top out at about 5%. That is still a lot of energy, and it will come mainly from residential rooftop solar embedded panels.

How fast is solar power growing in the US? At the current growth rate, what year will solar power provide 10% of US power?
The nation’s top 10 utilities now have 882 megawatts of solar capacity.
Considering that one large nuclear power plant can produce 1000 megawatts, it seems like solar power has a long way to go?
