There is another way to do this as well.

I use the program Jing to take any size snapshots of whatever is on the monitor at thee click of a button.~~http://www.jingproject.com/ ~video too.

Its free easy and works on both Mac and PC.

Combined with a Flickr account I can as Jing would advertise "Move at the speed of conversation. I have been using this program since May and it is the greatest thing to happen to the screenshot ever.

I second the @buddawiggi recommendation for Jing.

I have been using it since day one here on Mahalo Answers, combined with a Flickr Pro account it's been possibly been the most convenient product I've ever used on the web.

Press Ctrl+ PrtScn.

This will copy exactly what you see on your screen.

Now go into paint or another photo program and open an empty document.

Either go edit>paste or hit ctrl+v.

Save.

Upload to share. Example/put up on photobucket to post on web.

If you are on a mac, go to system preferences -> Keyboard & mouse -> Keyboard Shortcuts

There is a section on screen shots, you can setup shortcuts to take a picture of the entire screen or a selected portion of the screen. Mine are set to Shift-Command-3 and Shift-Command-4 respectively.

Doing either creates a "Picture #.png" file on my desktop. Using Command-Shift-4 brings up a cross hair that lets you select the area of the screen, just click and drag the portion you want and it creates the file.

I do not have a mac, but knowing how to take a snap shot of a selected portion of the screen would be a useful skill. Do you know how to do this for a PC?

If you're on a Mac Skitch is a great free app that also allows you to share your screenshots to the web. What's great about Skitch is that it allows you to easily add annotations to your screenshots.

I actually created a page on how to take screenshots here:

How To Take A Screenshot On A PC

Once you've saved your screenshot, upload it into Flickr (or similar photo sharing site). If you're using Flickr, and you want to add the picture to a question or answer here on Mahalo, click on the picture, click on Share This, then click on the HTML code to copy it. Then just paste the HTLM code into the question/answer on Mahalo, and when you submit your question/answer it will convert into the picture.

Alternatively, if you have the person's email address, after you've saved the picture on your desktop, you can attach it to an email or on some email applications you can simply just copy and paste the picture directly into the body of the email.

I hope this helps!
