When I was doing some research on traffic rankings through alexa and one of the websites had mahalo linking back to it. I found the name mahalo very African sounding, actually Bantu sounding. In my dialect its comes closest to meaning "that place" so when i checked it out and found that my initial assumptions were wrong, and that in actual fact it is a human powered non algorithmic search engine. I became hooked by the audacity of the concept, and that explains why I am here at mahalo answers.

In my mind Mahalo is the 'human powered' search engine and not the 'equation' search engine of Google. A valid approach and as a librarian I respect the founder for taking this approach.

It was mentioned with a link on one of the internet news sites that I follow. I don't remember which one, probably BBC or Reuters. It did not mention that this was a beta or perhaps early start up. There are far too few people yet for the site to be useful. However, it is still fun.

I woke up this morning with a choice... I could either come in to work today and work, or I could come in to work today and play on http://www.allmyfaves.com , which is quickly becoming one of my favorite websites. I chose the allmyfaves route, and found a link to this site under weekly favorites. Now this site is definately one of my favorites of the day.
