How can something trend in Google Trends when there are no results in the search?

When there are no results in the Google trend search it tells you that the trend is that people are not searching on that term.

This in itself can be very valuable information, because you won't waste your time trying to promote something no one is looking for.

However, it pays to check other sources as well, because if it is a new trend, it might not show up yet.
