Question

Mahalo is adding a tip to all questions that don't offer a tip.
How can I test an LDAP connection via telnet. I know the way to makes a connection 'telnet localhost 389' but what to type to get a info?
I very often test connections to SMTP with telnet and use HELO to get a response, and also know the rest. I can do the same for POP and IMAP but how to test the LDAP connection?

Try pinging the IP address of the server or the remote host. If the connection succeeds, it will show details of sent and received signals. If not, it will just show sending and no receiving. It will automatically stop after the trying time. Pinging is so far the surest way. Thanks

Thanks for the effort, but pinging is not the issue. The remote host is reachable without problems. I wanted to test the connection to the LDAP manually. I solved it already by pointing an application to the machine and that seems to work.
