Free PDF editor + viewer?

Hello,

I am looking for freeware PDF editor + viewer that will let me add/remove text and images in PDF files.
Many thanks!

IMPORTANT: Added for clarification: Foxit is great but will not let me edit. I need something like Foxit that is a PDF viewer but will also allow me to edit documents. Thanks!

I was trying to come up with the same combo of free programs, but it's not worth the headache. For about $20 on Ebay you can pick up a copy of Nitro PDF Professional which will do much more than you probably need. And it's fully PDF compatable. I got myself a copy and love it. Check it out.

Primo PDF works great, and is free. You can edit like nitro, but you can edit the non-pdf item and then turn it into a pdf.

I have none, but my only experience with them is that they tend to be full of spammy adware and viruses for some reason. I recommend that, whichever anyone else recommends here, you do a couple of google searches to see what people say about them.

Sorry I couldn't help with a specific product. I hope it's at least some help.

I think that open office 3 has some PDF functionality built in that would meet these requirements. If you just want to create PDFs, you can use a product call FreePDF.

although there a free programs which do edit PDF files, keep in mind these all reverse engineer the PDF standard. In other words there not exactly written to the spec which could give mixed results in other viewers. If you need this for a client, business or something important for printing etc. I would seriously suggest you would take a look at Adobe's Official PDF editor(s).

If it's just for 'playing' around though I would go for CutePDF writer, as recommended by Bugsy

PDFHammer might be an option you want to check out. The nice thing about this option is it is online and doesn't require you to download and install anything.

FoxIt would be my choice. It works as it should without all the bloat of Adobe's version. It's kind of ironic that Adobe's version is considered bloatware.

yes, editing PDFs is broken by design.

Open Office will "print" to a PDF file.

My favorite free PDF viewer is PDF-XChange viewer.
It has a wonderful pan and zoom function that lets you see exactly what you want in a big document.
Also, it's very good at handling PDF with a lot of graphic objects, files that often make other readers like Foxit choke.

You can download it here:
http://www.docu-track.com/home/prod_user/PDF-XChange_Tools/pdfx_viewer

I've long searched for a free PDF editor of good quality without finding one. The Pro version of PDF-XChange does everything you usually need from such a tool (page extraction, insertion, cropping, etc.) and only costs $20.

I've been using it for a while and I recommend it.

If you want to do more complex operations on your PDF files, as your question suggests, your cheapest option may be Nitro PDF:
http://www.nitropdf.com/index.asp

This program lets you convert PDF files in Word or RTF files that you can change as you wish before converting them back to PDF. Unfortunately, if your PDF files are complex, fidelity is not always great as glitches appear during the process that must be fixed by hand.
