Not in an official capacity. Email is relatively insecure & hackable, & the Presidential Records Act requires all official correspondence to be issued into the public domain. Barack Obama plans to be the first president with a computer in the Oval Office & is probably going to have to give up or severely restrict the use of his beloved Blackberry.
George W. was a big fan of email before taking office, & sent this message out from his old address G94B@aol.com at his transition in 2000:
“Since I do not want my private conversations looked at by those out to embarrass, the only course of action is not to correspond in cyberspace. This saddens me. I have enjoyed conversing with each of you.”
