Does anyone know the origin of MaCatte? How does one GET it so I can avoid it?

This is apparently the new virus that's sweeping the innahwebs according to the following website: http://www.huliq.com/9140/88333/macatte-emerges-latest-rogue-antivirus-threat

It looks like a virus scanner that suddenly appears on your PC but you cannot get rid of it without a system restore. Due to the fact that this is so new, there's not a lot of info on it and anti-virus programs do not have a definition yet. So far, my laptop fell asleep twice, I could not wake it up, forcing me to reboot. When I got it back, it had MaCatte on it.

I can't for the life of me figure out what I may be hitting that's locking up my PC and secretly installing MaCatte on it. I know how to get rid of it, I just don't know how it keeps getting there.

MaCatte is a bit of malware that disguises itself as McAffee software. Its a backdoor Trojan virus. Your best defense against it is to keep your firewall up and your antivirus software up to date and active. If you think you have the infection you can try the following software to remove it.

Do a system restore in safe mode. And try this tool. Revo Uninstaller

Malwarebytes is a malware removal tool

As for its origin many new malware items are very hard to track to there creator

Thanks for the info, but I'm more or less wondering where I may be running into it? Is it email, websites? downloads? I know it's new so I'm not sure how much info is out there on it :/

Viruses are transmitted on pc's lots of ways but for this one I imagine its a website and your either automatically downloading a program that looks like a McAffee one or its attached to software that your downloading and installing Active X controls etc or Free software. To stop the activex controls that could be harmful raise your internet security levels to high. Installing infected software is the more difficult to catch scan every download with your virus scanner. Back Door Trojans create an opening in your system and send info out to actually download a malware package kind of like "hey i know a way in!" Its why they are so very difficult to remove. Within a few minutes you have not just one but several parts of malware running at one time each checking up on the other and replacing a lost part at the same time. The first most important thing is clean it off your system
