There are three highly rated Twitter apps that you could try. If you're willing to cough up some cash, go for Tweetie ($2.99, 4 stars on App Store), which many say is the best Twitter app out there. There are also two free apps you could try out: Twitterfon (Free, 3.5 stars on App Store) and TweetDeck (Free, 3 stars).
