Does anyone know how to convert Adobe Illustrator and/or InDesign files to pdf without compromising the quality?

Illustrator - File > save as > choose pdf.
In the pdf preset menu choose PDFX-1a
InDesign - File > export > choose PDF
In the pdf preset menu choose PDFX-1a
For print, the mantra is: garbage in, garbage out. If you have poor image quality you will get a PDF with poor quality.
There are other PDF presets, but PDFX-1a is the most widley accepted for print.
