Does anybody know another way besides an s cable to hook a computer up to a TV?

It depends on what sort of interface the TV has.
For connecting PC (VGA) to TV that has component ports, check out VGA to RCA component video cable ($2.40 + tax + shipping)

You can use DVI or HDMI. If you tv and computer has them. If you computer has SVGA but not DVI or HDMI you can convert the SVGA to DVI or HDMI.
