I like a very specific brand of coffee that is not even expensive enough to count as gourmet. I can have it at Target for about $3.75 for a bag of 18 senseo compatible pods.

The problem is that Target is the only one around here that always sells it, and if they run out of it, we have to spend the next hour or two driving to each of the other Targets in the area until we find it since we can't call the store to have somebody check on a $3.75 bag of coffee.

Because of that we learned to buy whatever they brought in stock (if you are the other poor bastard in my town that likes this coffee, this is survival of the fittest, sorry).

Then, out of curiosity, I decided to check on Amazon. Amazon sold it a few cents under whatever Target charges.

And no sales tax. And I have Amazon Prime, which I use and abuse to the point that it doesn't cost me to have the coffee shipped to me.

On top of it, there's a discount if you buy it as a subscription, so once a month I get my big box of coffee pods from Amazon and it costs me a little less than driving to the store once a week plus the sales tax.

For anything else, Amazon's convenience beats everyone else except that there is no instant gratification. And Christmas shopping is an exercise in simplicity, last December I spent more time bickering with my wife about what I was supposed to pick and buy than the time it took me to get the order done.

How did you qualify for Amazon Prime? How much does Amazon Prime save you?

I think its exactly like Walmart. Some things are MUCH cheaper. Others arent. I know ppl use to say Walmart when asked where to find something cheap. If you ask ppl where to shop for just about anything at a cheap price on the internet, thy usually say: "Amazon"

It's similar as far as having a wide range of goods available for purchase.

It differs helpfully though by having product reviews, and just being online so that you're not having to negotiate crowds of other shoppers nor worry that something will be out of stock by the time you arrive.

Also Amazon has amusing product reviews, like the one linked below. :-}

That was a great review. Funny.

That was when I knew. He was tired of this life with me, tired of bringing home the Tuscan Whole Milk, 1 Gallon, 128 fl oz.

This should be a commercial, it is dramatic and funny.

I think Amazon has the potential to invite reviewers to post their own commercials for products. The "Tuscan Whole Milk" review really was an excellent commercial. The review approval rates were very high.
