Do you like Amazon's recommendation engine?

I love it! I was searching for specific a jacket last year and did decided to do a search for it on Amazon. After reading some reviews that said it wasn't the best I looked below and saw a recommendation for another jacket that I ended up buying. I've also had great luck when it recommends books. It's not really easy to search for types of books, but if you can see what other people buy with the book you like it becomes very easy.

Some people like the recommendation engine and other don't. I don't use the recommendation engine, but found you answer interesting.
I don't really like their recommendations very much. There are times when I will just take a look at an item on Amazon that I'm not really interested in, or I'll click a link a friend sends me that takes me to a funny or strange product, and all of a sudden those are included in my recommendation designs.
It has never been very useful for me. What I have found extremely useful, though, is the area on the page that tells you "People who viewed this page ended up buying x product." If a good portion of people looking at this book, or computer, or music player or whatever ended up buying a different one, I will look at that one instead. So I guess it's a people powered recommendation engine.
