Yeah. HandBrake is probably your best option for quality and free price.

Handbrake is great. Don't forget iMovie though. It's installed on your Mac and can compress files for several uses and filesizes. Then, if you are feeling brave there is ffmpeg. A command line converter for almost any format. Website: http://ffmpeg.org/
