You can't move music files onto it or sync with windows media player like a normal mp3 player, nor can you move music files off easily, but a program called YamiPod has been developed to get around this. To use YamiPod, you need to have already had your iPod hooked into iTunes at least once on that computer to give your computer info about your iPod.

It relies on iTunes to sync data between the PC and the iPod, but that works no differently on a PC than a Mac. It's a free download and then you just add any music on your PC to your iTunes library.
Bear in mind that the majority of iPod owners have Windows PCs, so there is no mileage for Apple in making devices that don't work well with Windows!

iTunes will only allow you to sync your device with one computer at a time. For example, if you have a desktop and a laptop, you can only sync your device with one of them. If you try to sync it with the other, it'll first have to erase everything and then put data from the other computer onto the iPod/iPhone.
You can sync music, videos, applications, as well as many other types of data, and you can buy all of that content from the iTunes Store too, if you wish.

Well, it depends on a few things. The iPod is an apple product, so they decided to make it only compatible with iTunes. So, you cannot sync with anything else, except for a few programs developed to get around having iTunes. You can't move music files onto it or sync with windows media player like a normal mp3 player, nor can you move music files off easily, but a program called YamiPod has been developed to get around this. What are you looking to synch? If it is just audio, video and applications, then download the current version of iTunes and synch away. If you are looking to synch contacts or the calendar, it will synch it to Microsoft Outlook via iTunes. Check out the link below for more information from Apple on the iPod Touch. http://www.apple.com/ipodtouch/features/contacts.html

iTunes is required to sync iPods and iPhones, meaning you cannot sync iPods and iPhones on linux (yet), but you can sync them on Mac and Windows-based PCs. There are a few conditions, however. iTunes will only allow you to sync your device with one computer at a time. For example, if you have a desktop and a laptop, you can only sync your device with one of them. If you try to sync it with the other, it'll first have to erase everything and then put data from the other computer onto the iPod/iPhone.
