Nope. The CPU is actually soldered onto the motherboard.

You can however, replace and upgrade the memory and hard drive, but you run the risk of voiding the warranty, so might want to have an Apple professional do it for you.

can the CPU be changed in the 17 inch MacBook Pro
i want to install a quadcore CPU like the one in the Alienware allpowerful M17X in the 17inch MacBook Pro. And i just wanted to know if it was possible.

Not much of a macbook pro expert but I am up on laptops in general. I'd say no. If its a intel chip set which I assume it is then technically you could but at what cost? I mean the mobile chips are expensive... and replacing the chip is probably going to be difficult. The real deal is your gain is probably going to be non-existent. I mean if your running a 2Ghz chip (dual core) than what are you hoping for .2 Ghz - .5 Ghz more. Not worth it. You'd probablly better off selling it on ebay and buying a whole new system or upgrading something like RAM where you'd see real performance improvement. If your editing video or something intense then you might need every edge if so you might be better off upgrading the whole thing and getting a better video card as well.
