S.F. is VERY cold especially in January. Okay, cold is relative... Into the 50's. It will probably be moist or, more likely, raining.
I don't know if they'll let you set up a tent, you'd probably have to call to verify.
I would suggest you prepare for 50's temp and raining....

If you have a small puptent type tent, it would give you some wind protection. Just be careful of being directly on the ground... you don't want a heat sink and lose your body heat to the sidewalk!
Good luck and welcome to California!

Camping overnight for Macworld Apple keynote. What do I wear/sleep in for San Fran weather?
I'm going to San Francisco for Macworld. I'm coming from Scotland where it's ice cold right now so used to wearing gloves, scarf etc. Is it as cold in San Francisco during the night as I'm going to line-up overnight to ensure I get in to the keynote okay after making this big trip. Any advice on whether I should bring a tent etc?

Thank you so much for this. It's about 40F in Glasgow, so I'll come prepared!

It's going to be cold and wet. High probability of fog. If there isn't fog, it's either because it's raining or because wind is blowing off the water. It may dawn bright and sunny, but it will be cold. I would recommend something that breaks the wind and repels water. Thermal layers underneath all that will help keep you warm. It generally doesn't get below freezing, but watch the weather reports as you get closer to that time. If you have a small puptent type tent, it would give you some wind protection. Just be careful of being directly on the ground... you don't want a heat sink and lose your body heat to the sidewalk!

It sounds so much colder and wetter than I actually thought, so I'm going to be prepared for sure. Thanks very much!

You know Steve Jobs isn't going to be there this year, right?

I know, gutted about that. It will still be fun though I'm sure. Last year for Apple too.
