Best to purchase online poker software?

I am looking to purchase software to run an online poker site. I need to be able to do a little bit of development work on it for a project we are working on. Suggestions?

Here are a couple of options:

http://www.indusgaming.com/poker.htm

http://www.phppoker.net/

Both of these software packages will (for the most part) allow you setup a turnkey poker site. Note that there are pretty specific laws about online gambling and that there was a crackdown in 2006 that forced a lot of online gambling sites and software to shutdown or change the way they operated.

I hope that this helps!

You should mention that phppoker does not work for real money play.

Off the shelf in the US, you're right. Phppoker cannot be used with real money.

However the software can be extended with a little bit of work.

Check out Holdem:

Holdem Manager is a multipurpose poker tracking software. In this day and age, online poker is a very vibrant and competitive arena and it is fundamental to use the poker tools that your competition may be using against you in order to play on an equal footing with them.

Holdem Manager is a comprehensive suite of statistical tools designed to answer the numerous questions that you have with respect to your own game or your opponents' game.

Do you limp too much with suited connectors in middle position? Is GoldenDonky a big bluffer? How often do players check-raise a preflop raiser at the flop? What is the list and the underlying statistics of the most aggressive regulars at no-limit holdem midstakes at Full Tilt Poker? These are the kinds of questions that Holdem Manager can easily answer, and many more.

The questioner was asking for software to start his own poker site, not to help him play on one.

Here is the code for four open-source poker rooms.

http://sourceforge.net/projects/pokerth/
http://code.google.com/p/pokerspot/source/checkout
http://freshmeat.net/projects/poker-network
http://code.google.com/p/cspoker/

The successful rooms are making far too much money to put their software up for sale. So any version you see for sale, I would say is not worth it, you should save that money and work off one of these open-source versions.
