I have just modified some source code i found on the net (just made a few tweaks to the interface and default settings,
its very basic, allows you to set the time to count down from, and a message to display at the end, it will popup a dialog with the message set.
I can modify this somemore, i'm unware what you need it for, so if needed i can take away the pause/stop buttons, meaning the timer has to keep counting until time is up.

You may require .Net framework 2, (probably already have it) you can get it from here: http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details.aspx?FamilyID=0856EACB-4362-4B0D-8EDD-AAB15C5E04F5&displaylang=en

You can check it out at

I personally found that XNote Timer, which has a adjustable screen size,
system wise keypress to start/stop the time.
Hope you find this useful.

Download the free (unlimited use) version here:

They also offer a paid version with some extra features, but the free one does everything you need and never expires.
I hope this helps!

Anyone know a good timer/stop watch program for Windows XP?
I am specifically looking for a visual indicator (a pop-up box or something flashing on the screen) to indicate that the time is up. If the timer does make a sound I want the option to turn the sound off.

Can you use the cool timer? I got it free from internet. It has a sound to make the alarm go off. You can turn off. change the sound. Also has an option to make the alarm give sound only ones and can be repeated till you off it.

There's a good one called TimeLeft which supports all the standard stopwatch features as well as interesting extras (like a countdown or reminder notes). You can resize and recolor the window, and it's very easy to use. Download the free (unlimited use) version here:
http://www.timeleft.info/windows-stopwatch.html
They also offer a paid version with some extra features, but the free one does everything you need and never expires.
