I'm an efficiency consultant who helps people get organized for a living, and I set out on a personal project to try out every productivity app out there and see if it worked with GTD. Not a single one did. The closest I've found is "Things" - a desktop application for the Mac - but it also has some severe limitations.
Pen and paper are your best bet if you really want to be organized, sadly.

I think the trick with a good GTD software is it has to be with you and accessible anywhere you go, so that when you think of something, it gets written down right away, or you can start sorting your list if you have a few minutes free waiting, etc. Since I move around a lot, the portability and syncing capabilities are perfect for me.

Any nice software (or web based app) to manage projects and next actions for GTD adopters?
I know you can do most of this using any to-do list or even text editors, but I wonder if anyone knows about any software that was built to help organize projects and next actions as suggested by the Getting Things Done methodology.

Thanks Marina, that was an awesome suggestion. I am trying Things now and it looks like a pretty decent software. As you said, it has some limitations, but looks like this is very new, so there might be some interesting updates soon. Thanks for the idea.

You're welcome! I tag my Next Actions with "now" so it's basically like having a Next Actions list, but I don't understand why they don't have one that updates automatically (i.e. if I had a project to "Read Book" once I finished "Read Chapter 1" it would automatically put "Read Chapter 2" on my next actions list). But I digress...

I'd be interested to know what you thought of Toodledo and the GTD plug-in for Outlook from Dave Allen's company.

I've tried a lot of different apps (desktop-based and web-based) to implement GTD and the one that seems like it's working the best for me is Evernote, mainly because I can install it on my work Mac, my home PC, and my laptop (cross-platform) and changes are propagated to potentially any location where I'm working (syncing). They also have an iphone app. I dont have an iphone yet but plan to get one in the future. Furthermore, the lists you create are accessible online via any browser. I think the trick with a good GTD software is it has to be with you and accessible anywhere you go, so that when you think of something, it gets written down right away, or you can start sorting your list if you have a few minutes free waiting, etc. Since I move around a lot, the portability and syncing capabilities are perfect for me.

Personally I use Taskwriter.com - very easy to use, fast and functional. Might give it a try - it's free to boot. GTDAGenda.com provides Goal tracking and some other handy features with a little more of a learning curve.
