well first off I am a Accountant and tax preparer what you can do to lower your property tax is first off you need to study the assesing process to do this Call your assessor's office and ask how it pegs values.so you can figure out whether the actual value the assessor is assigning to your home is fair.

secondly get the assessor's proof, Visit the assessors office and ask for the evidence used to value your home.

The assessor's file should contain a worksheet that the appraiser filled out during inspection with addresses of homes he compared with yours.

File an Appeal
You won't have much time to file an appeal, generally 60 days or less from the time your annual tax assessment was mailed.

meet the assessor
Go over the evidence you found in support of a lower value. This meeting might be hard to arrange in larger towns, but it's worth trying. If the assessor more or less agrees with you, the rest of the process will be a lot faster and smoother.
You're showing the assessor how his appraiser messed up.

these are the ways to fight the high property tax you are dealing with and usually after all these steps the assessor and appraiser will give you a more fair property tax to pay.

You can get a new appraisal and then take it to the local taxing authority. Most reductions are done this way. If you live in an agricultural area, you can plant crops and then ask the local tax board for an agricultural deduction. That's what I did. Some jurisdictions have reductions for home owners or for senior citizens.

My city offers a variety of adult education seminars - one is in how to obtain the agricultural exemption for residential properties. Your area may have a similar course! You may also be able to dispute your assessment with your local tax board. Whatever your assessor's website is should have information on how to file a dispute, or there may be other exemptions available with specific criteria to meet.
