Yes, I think the choice to use them in their ad was intentionally ironic and humorous. It's a good marketing move because, right now, so many people can relate to the economic turmoil these two men have experienced. The sympathy and relatability factor could work well in Cash4Gold's favor. Hopefully, they were both paid well for their endorsement.

No - I would say it more likely to be a combination of the testimonial and bandwagon styles of commercials. Both figures are well known and are infamous for their money troubles.
