Suggestion: In addition to a "question of the day", how about an "answer of the day"?
You can leave an optional "tip" with Mahalo's virtual currency, Mahalo Dollars. If you are asking a difficult question that might require some research, or if you'd like a wide variety of feedback, a higher tip often leads to more answers to your question.

M$But how would it work? Because no-one reads all the answers to all the questions, and it would be too big a job to ask anyone.
The only thing I can see working is if people nominated their suggtestions, and then the QOTD people select some to put to the vote.
Of course @robbrown and @cjd's answers would have to be excluded from nomination if that's how it worked. Hard luck guys! :)

M$Answers as well? Its touch enough that myself and @robbrown have our questions excluded from Question of the Day - but Answer of the Day too?
There are too many answers. If some sort of helpful / nomination system could be put in place, that would work out. But the Question of the Day is mostly manual and it's a fair bit of work / time to carefully review the questions to find the best, I couldn't imagine doing the same thing for the answers too.
What about a MOST HELPFUL question of the day?
This would be a simple database query to pull the most helpful question of the day and for the system to automatically notify a dev that M$whatever should go to that person for their answer.
But yeah... there's a bit too much labour in an Answer of the Day. I really like doing the QotD, but finding the best answers and knowing for sure that they were the best I could find would be daunting every day.

M$Your probably going to look through a LOT of questions to find some of the best answers of that day. It might be quite tough...
Instead, what about Best Answers of the Day? Select some of the best answers chosen and choose the best out of them.

M$Great idea @orange...but personally I think it would be better to do a BAOTD than a Best Answer from the QOTD (or BAQOTD for short).
What about the best answer from the weeks QOTD winner?
Only the answers to those questions that were "abandoned" by asker, and left up to the Mahalo community to vote on, should be eligible.

M$For example, the question could be titled "What do you think is the answer of the day for May 15th 2009?". People would then answer by giving the answer they think is the best of the day and then others who agree that it's the best can mark it as helpful. The answer that receives the most helpful votes would be deemed the answer of the day!
