Steering wheel shakes only between 55 and 60 m/h

After I got a new set of tires installed , the steering wheel starts shaking a little only between 55 and 60 mph. It is fine before and after that speed.
Since It only causes a temporary problem when I am speeding up I have ignored this problem. Is it serious ? Should I get it fixed soon ?

If you had those four tires installed recently, I would return to the mechanic who mounted them and insist that they be balanced once more.

One of the tires is out of balance either from an alignment problem (as already mentioned), or because one (or more) tires is out of whack itself.

This can be caused by something as simple as one of the tires being low on air pressure, or as serious as it having a defective steel belt.

Don't play around with this matter, as it could be the sign of something more serious, and if the tire is defective it could fail unexpectedly.

this is a balance or alignment problem.

take it back to the shop where you bought the tires. explain to the manager what happens. they MAY try to tell you it's not their fault.

If you didn't have the problem before, then you put on 4 new tires, and now it shakes between 55 and 60 mph ... guess what? it's their fault.

IF they don't fix it, go to another shop, get it fixed, then sue the first tire store in small claims court for the exact costs of the allignment, balancing, whatever they have to do.

You might want to have your mechanic check the alignment (get a quote for how much this would be). Does it pull one direction or another?

Did you install four new tires? If not, I'd make sure the tires are put on both fronts or both backs... otherwise, you don't have symmetry.

To me (an unqualified mechanic, but a long-time driver) this seems pretty minor, but, you might want to do some basic checks.

"If it was bad, I thought there would be a flashing light or a buzzer or something..." "Honey, you had NO OIL in the car."

Does it pull one direction or another? - no, it does'nt but with the steering wheel shaking I don't want to try letting it go to figure out if the car is veering.
I installed 4 new tires.

Another thing to check is the amount of tread you have left if you didn't just get new tires. I had the same problem on one of my cars and when I checked the treads, the front tires were nearly bald. After I purchased 4 tires and had them balanced and installed, the problem went away.
