do you need to file an extension for your georgia state tax return?

2008 state tax return. deadline is april 15.

Basically, no, you don't have to file any paperwork in advance. As long as you filed a Federal extension, GA extension is automatic.

You will only need to request a Georgia extension if you are not filing for a Federal extension.

If you are filing for a Federal extension, you may attach a copy of that extension to your Georgia return when you file. If you are not filing for a Federal extension, you may request an extension directly from Georgia by filing Form IT-303.
