The Stardance trilogy is great, and more serious than many of Spider's works. I think it will be extremely difficult to make it realistic - even through the apparent use of the "Vomit Comet" to film in microgravity.
I also think it will face serious opposition from religious groups - I suppose it isn't quite as direct a challenge to Christianity as the Deathkiller books, but the idea of humanity evolving beyond itself is likely to raise a few hackles.
I'll be waiting outside the theater for the first show, though.
