Would you sail around the world, given a ship, some training, and food and water?

Is sailing around the world a challenge you could take on?

I watched the television series about the sail training barque"Picton Castle" ,she sails around the world every 18months, it was a truly amazing documentary. It showed people of all ages and different backgrounds being trained in the various skills required to crew a sailing ship and also all the places they went and the people they met on the voyage.Since then I've really thought what an incredible experience it would be! Check out the website,it's really very good.

What were the challenges she faced? Did she run into pirates?

They were worried about one suspicious looking vessel,I think it was in the South China sea,but luckily it didn't intercept them. The main challenges seemed to be coping with the running of the ship in bad weather and learning to work together to ensure all went smoothly. The food wasn't always brilliant, depending on who the cook was. There was also an incident when one girl got stung badly by a jelly-fish.They got to port and took her to a hospital and she was ok.Everyone seemed to admire and respect the captain,Daniel Moreland he is a very interesting person,I believe the next voyage in May 2010 will be the last one under his command.

Alone, I would probably not. If not alone, if I'm with all my love ones, I would definitely do it. That I guess will be interesting and fun. As long as there is no trouble on the way, but how can one be sure, the challenges are always present anywhere we go, as long as we're alive.

Did you read about the 19 year old girl, whose father bought her a boat and she spent two years sailing around the world? She had to learn as she went how to navigate.

Assume the boat and supplies were provided. What would you do to learn how to sail around the world?
