The NHL will try to do so. It does not want a team in Hamilton, and more important, it wants to control its own bylaws. The other major sports leagues are supporting the NHL's position.
The issue is that the Coyotes are in bankruptcy court, and the court is obligated to find the maximum value for the creditors. But that maximum value is likely derived by moving the team to Hamilton, with an ownership group the NHL will not approve.
As of June 6, the NHL claims that there are four ownership groups willing to keep the team in Arizona as the NHL desires. So which comes first: the bankrupt company's obligations to its franchisor, or their obligations to their creditors????? It's going to be an interesting saga.
