These two team mates are heavily favored to beat both Hamilton or Raikkonen in the Singapore GP. The main reason is that both drivers are competing for the team and not for their own personal gain. In the 2007 season Lewis Hamilton and Fernando Alonso should have place 1st and 2nd at the end of the season but because of hubris Felipe Massa won the title. One of the main reasons why they will win is because every one has a time in their career to shine and this is their year that both men will be shinning stars. Both team mates are 1st {Jenson Button (Brawn) 80 points} and 2nd {Rubens Barrichello (Brawn) 66 points} respectively at the head of the Formula 1 Driver Standings 2009. Button stated in the news that he will be aggressive in the up coming GP. Another reason why the duo will win the race is because of the changes done by the governing body of Formula1(FIA) racing please check this link to understand what took place http://www.formula1.com/inside_f1/rules_and_regulations/sporting_regulations/8692/. i think it is more so the changes done by FIA that has resulted in the dramatic fortunes of Brawn Mercedes. And as we can see the teams that where at the bottom are now at the top and the teams that dominated for a number of years are trying hard to cope with the changes. The chages made favored the new design Brawn cars and also the entire staff of Brawn have contributed to this success. It is highly unlikely that neither one of the Brawn drivers will win the championship title and the Team Title. please see the links for current standings in both the team table and drivers table

During 2008 it was even worse. He challenged Lewis Hamilton until the last race of the season in the Brazilian GPrix at Interlagos (his home field). He lost the title in the last lap before the last curve, when Hamilton who was at the moment losing the race many places back, benefited from another driver who slowed down the last hundred of meters, allowing him to grab the position, arriving in 6th place and winning the World title with just 1 point, enough difference to snatch the lead from Felipe Massa an win the title.
Felipe Massa has never won the world title... and his been there for almost 8 years. The 2000, 2001, 2002, 2003, 2004 seasons the champion was Michael Schumacher; 2005 and 2006 was Fernando Alonso; 2007 was Kimi Raikkonen; 2008 was Lewis Hamilton.
Aaaah... and by the way... Button and Barrichello are two of the worse drivers that the F1 has had in the history of the sport. Barrichello has been there since 1992... 18 years! Button has been in F1 since 2000, he is in his 9th season and he only managed to get his first win at his 157th Gprix, full 7 seasons into the F1.
Almost all the F1 drivers laugh at his abilities because they know how predictable Jenson is in his racing, that he is overtaken on a regular basis. They all know his drift. Barrichello was Michael Schumacher´s "bodyguard" during great part of the German winning streak with Ferrari. Barrichello, an uncharacterized driver that swepted the field obstructing most drivers whenever Michael was challenged.
Now both of the worse drivers in F1 history are benefiting from the fortunes and good start of the Brawn racing team, a newcomer Scuderia who´s real talent is not based in the admirable car they manage to field this year, but in his secret weapon: his owner and director Ross Brawn; the most diabolically smart strategist in the history of F1. Is him who is winning this season. His strategist mind capable of assembling incomparable tactics to win difficult races coupled with a good decent car which is driven by two monkeys, Rubens and Jenson.
Made not mistake about that.
clearly the names
Alex Young
Andrea de Cesaris
Scott Speed
Joss Verstappen
Luca Badoer
Taki Inoue
and Ralf Schumacher mean nothing to to you. I can go on... as there are lots more that are worse drivers.
Both drivers lack of championships and race wins have been down to unfortunate choices when it comes to teams.
Rubens was always the number2 driver at Schumacher F1 (also known as Ferrari) and his job was specifically to help Michael, even to the extent of slowing down and waving to him as he drove past. Winning wasn't an option for him
Jenson on the other hand was at Williams at exactly the wrong time. The team had stopped being the conquerers that they were and on the slide, He then went for Benetton while they were becoming Renault, and then he decided that BAR/Honda were going to give him a car that would win championships. That didn't happen till this year when Honda ironically had bowed out and handed the team to Ross Brawn. Despite never having a decent car, he was a good racer, consistently beating Jarno Trulli and ex world champion Jacques Villeneuve.
To call it a 'new team' is missing the point as it was the Honda infrastructure, facilities, staff, design that they are racing with.
I also note that you didn't credit Ross Brawn as the secret weapon that gave Schumacher his titles... In fact its largely his legacy that was powering Massa's title challenge last year. He set the team up in such a way that he made them winners, and the process that he started at Honda continues in Brawn
Off course he was the reason behind Shumy´s winning streak at Ferrari. But that´s another story (no wonder the German didn´t drive for Ferrari this year: there was no Ross Brawn, no Jean Todt, no Barrichello to covering his back, no Martinelli´s unbreakable engine, no Inter-galactic car to back him up as the biggest shot on the F1....).
Barrichello driving for 18 years (I think he already surpassed Ricardo Patresse for the most races run) and Button with 10 years behind his back, between them sharing just a few victories (driving on the best teams), are true testimony of their failure as F1 drivers.
Up until last year Button was a hyper-inflated British driver earning 26 million dollars a year! An incompetent with just one lousy victory under his belt, coming on every race on 8th position or below.....was an F1 millionaire and a Prima Donna without merits.
Barrichello was also an incompetent, uncharacterized driver who was once the shame of the driving world (Austria 2002 GPrix), when he let Michael Schumacher pass just over the finish line, setting the F1 world on fire, all because Ferrari´s and Schumacher’s greed when it was not necessary. Ferrari was a juggernaut then, winning 12 or 13 races a year (off course, always with Michael arriving at the checkered flag and Barrichello as a content puppy behind)
So, "stretch of the imagination", eh? Let´s remember then what happened with these pieces of work not so long ago... enjoy:
