I heard today on the radio that it was more likely that the first real chance Chicago would have to be voted a host city would be 2024... A professor at some university (he predicted that Chicago would be out in the first round) was talking this morning saying that now that a games is in the western hemisphere for 2016 (Rio de Janeiro) the next goals will be to take the games back to the east (Asia), and also into Africa as there has never been one there yet. So that Immediately cancels out 2018 and 2020.
There is also a lot of bad sentiment from the IOC against the American Olympic committee that has occurred since the 1980's when the US Olympic committee said that they should get a disproportionately larger sum of the advertising revenue because most of the ads come from the US anyway.
Taking this into account, the next games after an Asian and African olympics will swing more in favor of Western Europe in 2022....
So, like I said at the beginning, the soonest that an Olympics will be more favorably due in the USA will be 2024 at the earliest.
(For the link below, you can listen to the interview in the end of the 7AM into the beginning of the 8AM podcast for 10/5/09 .... that is when I heard it driving to work)

I think Chicago might get nominate Olympic for 2020. And my reason behind this first United States will be more stable financial wise at that time. Right now people are still struggling find jobs in United States or the government fixing health care system, dealing with wars in Iraq and Afghanistan and the climate change. So spending tons of money on Olympic in 2016 would have not be wise. There is a lot of more things that needs to be look after before they decide to host the Olympic. So I think the Olympic committe knew it would have not be that much popular if they handed them the Games for 2016. And its all understandable why the Olympic committe could not nominate them for 2016. But they could host in 2020 for many reason one reason is that by that time they would be out of Iraq, so to celebrate that and to kind of take peoples mind out of the war and honour those people who served in war during the ceremony. And second they might use the games as mean of calming and persuing the nation to stand by them and let United States keep fighting in Afghanistan. Because by then United States would be in same situation as they were in Vitenam. So I think United States being one of the Power house could use his political views as mean of shifting people mind of the war and shifting towards the games which would be a welcome at that time.

What were the government corruption issues? Will these issues play a factor in the 2020 Chicago bid for the Olympics?
