He has simply had bad luck. Just like Randy Johnson, Barry Zito, Tim Lincecum and Matt Cain on the Giants, he is a very good pitcher who simply doesn't get a lot of runs to help him out.
On the plus side for him, the Mets have been hitting better lately (they just scored 9 runs on the road against the Giants). And even if he has low run support, he still has an extremely low ERA (1.36 after 8 starts) so despite the fact that the Mets had not been scoring much for him, he's holding his opponents to even fewer runs, which ensures his winning record (5-2 as of today).
