The NHL, and I never thought I would hear myself say that. I am, after all, in the land that Hoosiers made famous, the land of Bobby Knight and basketball goals on every garage.
I agree with the article, though. The NBA has become both too big and too small and petty. A lot of the athletes are thugs (WHERE has Reggie Miller gone? He was a good guy) and criminals. Their salaries are outrageous and you have to dip into your kid's college fund to go to a game. They're trying to have a team in every half-sized city; and Europe? Those are crazy business moves, combined with the outsized salaries (not to mention egos), could put the league in serious financial trouble.
Hockey just seems more accessible. I could never figure out why my sis-in-law liked it so much, even when her cousin was a player, because her interest went beyond merely being his fan.
"Heroes" are supposed to inspire us, and for decades pro athletes were the heroes of many. Anymore, when it seems that one is getting arrested weekly, while commanding nonsensical salaries that just seem greedy when the average person can no longer attend a game, most of the athletes in the major leagues have passed on hero status. Maybe the NHL can provide that again.

Far be it for me to call out someone's past (as I doubt any one of ours is flawless) but how many NBA players have criminal records, and how many NHL players have criminal records? During an NHL All Star game, was there ever any gunfire?
In the defense of the NBA, ask your average guy (or girl) on the street which they like better, basketball or hockey and you'll get basketball almost every time. Still, I like hockey and I like the rules (both on and off the ice) the league holds their players and coaches to.

NHL is an inferior product to the NBA but in terms of Marketing, Popularity, Fans and TV exposure. NBA is a far superior league.
NBA is more civilized. People like seeing hockey games for the fights. In hockey they just let it go and let them fight it out and then they will spend a little while in the penalty box. In the NBA throw a punch and you get suspended.

What league is better NBA or NHL?
I am pretty big NHL supporter, but I read this article and thought the NBA supporters should take a look.

In my book, it's the NHL - while I realize that they do "allow" fighting, the league holds the players to a ceratin ethics code that seems to be absent from the NBA. To me, it seems like hockey players are gentlemen and the NBA players are gangstas. Far be it for me to call out someone's past (as I doubt any one of ours is flawless) but how many NBA players have criminal records, and how many NHL players have criminal records? During an NHL All Star game, was there ever any gunfire?

NBA! - Because it is where the best of the world play basketball, a true global game like Soccer, unlike ice hockey - Canadians will not agree - And Nick thinks otherwise! http://espn.go.com/page2/s/bakay/010209.html
