I love Bob dylan and am a little fond of Will.I.Am
and i do enjoy a pepsi every now and then
BUT to be perfectly honest i think it's absolutely silly. As if somehow Pepsi was at all related to a single one of those events depicted in the montages. It's nothing more than a marketing ploy using elements of nostalgia to boost sales.
I like the song dont get me wrong and i really enjoyed the montage. but again i cant help but feel an overwhelming sense of cheapness that the message behind the the wonderful montage/song is nothing more than "buy pepsi."
i saw a similar ad when i was in the theaters the other week , it was a montage of things from generations like the wall of berlin and such but strategically placed in the shots were people holding a pepsi. and Frankly its just dumb to insinuate pepsi was somehow apart of any of the events they depict. These types of ads would be much better suited for Coke since coke has been around longer and is more global and actually was a part of the older generations (ie. you ordered a coke in the 50's not a pepsi)
But i digress, all in all i love Bob Dylan i don't mind will.I.Am and i really liked the montage; but the commercial itself i hate. pepsi had nothing to do with anything they depict and they are cheapening the phenomenon of nostalgia by using it as a marketing ploy. its just plain corny. on another note bob dylan needs to not sell out so much i mean whats up with the victoria's secret ad he did; what happened to the man from 1968 who helped change a generation?
and just a sidnote; although i dont like the commercial, i will commend it for not stooping to just having a bunch of skanky s on it to sell their products, i am glad to see pepsi mature a little bit in their advertising

I know this is an older question, but I had to answer. To me, this was one of the best commercials I've ever seen. It was really really well done. I'm sure it wasn't cheap to make, and Pepsi footed the entire bill, so why not make a commercial an enjoyable montage that people like? Pepsi may not have had much to do with the events shown specifically, but they were still in the marketplace during those times, and major brands are always more intertwined in our history and culture than most of us are willing to admit.
