Need help devising faux winter sports please!

Here's the dear, our Girl Scout troop want to earn their winter sports badge. To do this, they must complete four activities involving winter sports. The problem? We live in central Texas. We do have an ice skating rink, and plan to use it for 1 of the 4 requirements.

What other winter sports can be done cheaply (keyword there, cheap) where there is no winter? Creativity and stretching the limits is totally acceptable, as long as it's cheap!

If they don't do real winter sports, they should not earn a winter sports badge. It's that simple. Don't you try to teach honesty in the Girl Scouts? Probably not since you sell "Girl Scout Cookies" that are made from a manufacturer and sold by the parents hassling coworkers.

However, here are some winter sports that can be done in an ice skating ring:
basic skating
skate dancing (to music)
curling
hockey
racing various distances (sprint, medium, long)
Asker's Rating:
• All of you are right about them possibly not earning this badge, was just looking for ideas and see if it was possible. Possible doesn't mean that it has to happen.

Pretty judgmental though. :-(

Try to think of it as teaching to see the world creatively, and not dishonestly.

I don't think they should limited on earning badges because of their geography and/or lack of funds.

What is the badge supposed to represent? Play acting or winter sports? There are bound to be badges that Texans can earn more easily than Alaskans.

Like Cattle Roping? Mutton Busting?

Maybe the organization could have a unique badge for a specific geographical location, so they wouldn't try to do what they physically can't.

I don't know, I kind of agree with @albanian. Do they HAVE to earn this badge? It just doesn't seem regionally appropriate and their time would be better spent having real experiences and learning real skills. I mean, there's more to scouting than badge collecting, right?

I say pass on this badge. Keep the girls honest and help them to realize priorities.

But then again, I'm the same person who rails against the NHL every year for allowing teams to play who never have any natural ice in their home state! ;)

If you get a large tarpaulin set up on a hillside you can make a slide out of it by adding water and detergent, then you could snowboard down it, use sleds on it, ski down it.

Cheap winter sports, that is an oxymoron but here we go.

How about ice carving?

I'm guessing there is a store that sells block ice in your area. With a few ice blocks you can not only teach the responsibility of using the sharp instruments that are required to do this but have a great time finding out just what can be done in this area giving the limited time you will have before the ice melts in the Texas heat. I would suggest a few cameras and a video set up as well to document the process.
Here you could find some ideas.http://www.texasicecarving.com/

~~edit
If you can count each different game you play on the ice as an individual sport then I think I got you covered. Here are some games that can be played on the ice skating rink.

This is a tough one to meet all the parameters. I hope this is helpful.

That's a great one @buddawiggi - (they could make snow cones afterwards!)

@bernice - you might be able to use 2 of the requirements at the rink.
You could do ice skating and curling? Or even hockey if the girls are interested.
Just an idea...

Soap Box Derby - it's essentially bobsledding, just see the movie "Cool Runnings" as evidence of that.

Shuffleboard - is very similar to the Olympic sport Curling

Skateboarding - is quite similar to snowboarding

Water Ski Jumping - is very similar to Ski Jumping (maybe borrow someone's jet ski (or rent one for an hour))
