I think the message got confused somewhere along the way. Lovie Smith did a PSA for Big Brothers Big Sisters with Tony Dungy during Superbowl XLI (they were the two coaches in the Superbowl at the time).
However, they were selected not because they were in the program at one time, but because they have their own 'mentoring relationship'. Dungy, who waited more than 10 years to become an NFL head coach, gave Lovie Smith his first job with the organization. Lovie views Tony as his mentor, and they speak often.

I was told that Lovie Smith was a 'little brother' of the Big Brothers Big Sisters program...Is this true ?
