Ways to repel/hurt faeries?
What are some ways to repel evil faeries? I wanted to know how many ways their are. I heard knife or iron under a pillow is one. And salt perferably around the house or lined across windows/doors or worn as a sachet around the neck is another I found. I also heard something about scissors over a door/over a baby crib to keep them away. I cant find any straight answers online though, I've searched google for hours.
I asked this on yahoo answers as well and was told string with knots, primroses and iron...And how exactly is a piece of string going to protect against an evil spirit/being?
So, What are the other ways to repel faeries? Also what hurts faerie? Like if one was attacking what would be the best defense? I know Iron is harmful to them, but does that mean all metal too? And How would one tell if a metal is iron?
And before anyone asks, I am not asking for any witchcraft purposes, only to fulfill the paranoia in my head that wont go away.

This is actually a difficult question for a number of reasons, partly because you're dealing with a number of different kinds of supernatural creatures that each have their own distinct sets of rules of engagement, and secondly, because the rules for dealing with fae are often contradictory.
One of the big things that affect fae in general is wrought iron. Iron alone seems to not be particularly harmful to faeries, as forged iron seems to be more of an annoyance. It seems to be that wrought, not forged iron, is what really hurts wee ones. What this means is that the iron is never melted, but rather merely softened and hammered out (wrought) into the appropriate shape. Note that this applies only to iron and not steel, as it's necessary for steel to be completely molten so the carbon can be added to the iron.
Apparently, if something is made artistically out of wrought iron, the creativity suffuses it with sufficient Glamour so as to not be an issue with the fae. Only sufficiently banal things are harmful to the fae. Wrought iron items that are simple (and boring) to be churned out in large quantities such as horseshoes, nails, and simple farming implements are the types of items you are looking for.
The Fae also seem to be very much tied to specific locations, so that should you move out of range of its defended territory, you're unlikely to be tracked and followed by the Fae that are giving you so much grief.
Without any more specifics on the type of faerie you're dealing with, it's hard to offer any more specific device. The salt you are referring to is not to specifically keep fae out. A ring of salt around a specific area would be used in a ritual of purification if you were a Pagan, but salt itself would seem to have a significantly smaller effect without someone channeling one's Will into it.

I've found the best method is just to tell them. You're energy is just as powerful as any ritual. Rituals are simply a way of focusing your natural energy/ability... This is the way I've been taught...
You probably are a kind person, so I would wonder why you would want to hurt anyone or anything. If a faery was attacking you, you wouldn't have time to grab anything... All you would have is your own self/energy.
In dreamtime, if there's a monster, I turn around and give it a cookie. I'm wondering if these faeries are trying to tell/teach you something...
If you believe you have "paranoia in my head that won't go away", you might want to consult with a professional. Someone who deals with these kinds of things and knows a kind/loving way of working through it with you, so you can turn down the volume in your head.

I'm not crazy. I just believe in things that are crazy.
I didn't say you were crazy... I'm right along with you. And I don't see how believing in faeries is crazy. It's not within the norm, but that doesn't make it crazy.
I was just saying, if your "paranoia in my head that won't go away" is a problem for you, you might want to get some guidance around way to help you with that...

This may sound strange, but I was listening to a conversation at a party where two women where talking about this. I remember that one of the women said that fairies don't like frogs and toads, because frogs and toads snap them up with their tongues. She said that the best way to get fairies to avoid you was to put wood or ceramic frogs and toads around your room and to put a poster of a frog or a toad on your wall.
You are the third person that I have ever heard mention this about fairies.
Here is a link to some posters;
