I believe everyone takes their own path to God some path are clear some are short and some are difficult and some are long. They all end the same.
I believe all of those preachers of Satan are actually working for God. I believe they are on their own path to Him. I believe there are no preachers except those of God.
These ideas and this faith give me peace and serenity. A comfort like no other.

Matthew 19:23-25
http://www.biblegateway.com/passage/?search=Matthew+19:24&version=NIV
*"Jimmy Swaggart Ministries is a family business, with 17 relatives on the payroll. Jimmy is paid $86,000 annually. Frances and Donnie reportedly receive more than $50,000 each. In 1985 the Swaggarts borrowed $2 million from the ministry to build three luxurious homes in a wealthy Baton Rouge subdivision. They have use of a $250,000 ministry "retreat" in California and say that such luxury items as twin Lincoln Town Cars and handsomely furnished offices come from donors. "
As I don't believe in Satan or God in the biblical manner I have to disagree with the statement above. If I follow the intent of the quote I have to say I firmly believe many preachers work for power and money rather than love of God & Jimmy Swaggart could be one of the worst.
Just for the record I used to be Christian so I am not a totally outside observer.

I find it fantastically ironic for the reasons below.
In the 1980s a Christain Musician called Steve Taylor wrote a song called "Guilty by association" and included it in his album Meltdown. The song contained the following lyrics.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UplOF-GtoS8
----quote---
Turn the radio on to a down-home drawl
hear a brylcream prophet with a message for y'all
(preacher)
"I have found a new utensil in the devil's toolbox
and the heads are gonna roll if Jesus rocks
it's a worldly design! God's music should be divine!
try buying records like mine--avoid temptation"
Guilty by Association!
(Taylor)
So you say it's of the devil and we've got no choice
because you heard a revelation from the "still small voice?"
if the Bible doesn't back it then it seems quite clear
perhaps it was the devil who whispered in your ear!
---quote---
Swaggart was furious and threatened legal action, which never materialised. However he did include a whole chapter on Steve Taylor in his book Religious Rock 'N' Roll, a Wolf in Sheep's Clothing (ISBN 0-935113-05-3). Where he attacked him on musical grounds, and for criticising people in leadership positions.
A recurring theme in Taylors music was attacking people who " but preach to what their congregation wants to hear or pervert the Word and give it their own meaning". Especially if that meaning was for financial gain or to manipulate people
I have yet to hear of Jimmy offering a public apology to Steve. I won't hold my breath.

Answered Question

Mahalo is adding a tip to all questions that don't offer a tip.
"More preachers work for Satan than work for God." Do you agree?
Jimmy Swaggart made this quote on this morning's program. His point was that many preachers don't preach the Bible as our Lord intends it to be, but preach to what their congregation wants to hear or pervert the Word and give it their own meaning. Do you agree? What has been your personal experience with the ministers in your own church or spiritual journey?

• I have chosen your answer as the best. Although the other posters gave longer answers with interesting points of view, they didn't seem to understand the motive behind my query. They became distracted by the televangelist issue, which really wasn't what I was looking for. Thanks for your wonderful response.

Jimmy Swaggart makes a fortune selling ideas about a religion that teaches. " . . . it is easier for a camel to go through the eye of a needle than for a rich man to enter the kingdom of God." Matthew 19:23-25

I have no doubt myself that most televangelists are in it for the money. Perhaps I shouldn't have mentioned names, which isn't really pertinent to the motive behind my question. Thanks for sharing your thoughts.

Ahhh yes it does add to the flavor of the question. Without Mr Swaggart attached the root of the answer remains the same.

Thanks Jillbeth, have a great day

I don't necessarily agree that all 'preachers' work for 'Satan'. I believe in a higher power, not necessarily a (1) God in particular and I most definitely do not believe in Satan or hell. We live in a world with free will to live our lives to our own according and decisions. We choose to make our lives what we make them to be, listen to who or what we choose to listen to, based on our own free will. That being said, it is of our own choosing as to how we live and the lives we lead. If we 'believe' that whom we are speaking to, praying to or believing in is 'Satan' then that is our choosing, but who is to say that anyone else should or would or even could believe in such. In the same manner, who is to say, that one mans Buddha compared to one man's Jesus is any different, better or worse than the others belief? I was born and raised to be a southern baptist christian, but throughout my years, I have studied many different religions and what I have come to believe is that everyone is looking for something or someone to believe in, be it Satan, Jesus, Buddha, a God or Goddess or any other being, to represent that there is truly something good for them in this life. I truly believe that all those beliefs end up in the same place, the heaven that we all believe in, that we choose for it to be, based on the life we have lived and dream it to be. If it is not, I also truly believe that we are given second chances (reincarnation), to live our lives again, to learn to live again, a better life or possibly a worse life, based on what we had lived before, to give us the 'heaven' we are looking for in our 'afterlives'. I hope this helps you some in your quest to find what you are looking for. Keep on searching, keep on learning and keep on believing!

The question refers to "most preachers," not all. I agree that we all seek something to believe in, and we are all free to chose what that is. Thank your for your answer.

When It comes to my experience.. I've certainly seen pastors who seem to be out there for the 'Ego Trip'... and its not a healthy place to be.
And I can see exactly why it can happen
----quote----
So the crowds grew, and their praise did too
And a mailing list sent you money
So they love Jerry Lewis in France
Does that make him funny?
Small talk breeds where kingdoms come crashing
Rumor conquers where it wills
No one hears you, go ahead and cash in
If you don't die to yourself pride kills
----quote----
If God isn't at the centre of what you're doing then someone else is.
Thats not to say that God can't use you despite of yourself... but thats not what God or any of us should want. After all God used King Herod and the Philistines and things didn't work out too well for them!

People still listen to Jimmy Swaggart? Hmm...
I'm not surprised he said it but as with any teachings of the Bible if you can't find the scripture supporting what is being taught actually in the Bible (not just in the sermon) the preacher is way off to begin with.
Like not sitting in judgement of others. I can see his point but his own teachings don't follow scripture either so he's kind of nailed his own spiritual foot to the floor and talking in circles.
Again.

Fascinating; I was not aware of this controversy. I don't watch Swaggart as a regular habit; I tend to leave the TV on the Christian channels for background noise and listen part-time if something catches my attention. But yes, it was Jimmy Swaggart who said this and these were his exact words.
