Do you believe, as Ken Wilber does, that the word "God" is misleading and inaccurate?
He says: God is a perfect example of how these two types of religion treat ultimate reality. If you ask, "Do you believe in God?" In exoteric religion, it's a matter of belief. Do you believe in the kind of God who rewards and punishes and will sit with you in some eternal heaven? But in the esoteric form of religion, God is a direct experience. Most contemplatives would call it "godhead." It's so different from the mythic conceptions of God -- the old man in the sky with a gray beard The word "God" is much more misleading than it is accurate. So there's a whole series of terms that are used instead by the esoteric traditions -- super-consciousness, Big Mind, Big Self, Supreme Identity.

I think that the term "God" has always been troublesome, which is probably why the God of the Bible uses so many different descriptive words to separate himself from people's false ideas of God. If I were to ask someone if he believed in God, I would probably ask about the "God of the Bible" or "God the Creator" to clarify.
The God of the Bible is called Elohim (the plural form of the strong one), God Almighty, the Most High God, the Everlasting God, the Provider, the Lord is Peace, the Lord of Hosts, the Lord my Shepherd, the Lord our Righteousness, the Lord the God of Israel, Master, Father, Savior, the Creator, etc.
