Do you think our world is going to end in 2012?
There are a vast amount of predictions in which the Earth will suffer an apocalypse which could cause detestation to the people.
The Mayan's provided information saying that the Earth will suffer a global "consciousness shift" - which will mark a new age.
There is also a galactic alignment which will happen in 2012 - this is to align the Earth, the Sun and the galactic alignment. This is considered to produce a new age.
Global Warming is also taking its affect on the world - and could play a part in the destruction of the human race. However, it is unlikely to cause enough damage in 3 years.
What's your opinion?

PS: This is a short clip explaining the 2012 Doomsday Prediction - it is about half way through, so you may want to skip to it.

No.
I think that we have enough to worry about without wondering if the world will end due to circumstances that are out of our control.
Personally, I think that the Mayan calendar was filled with lore that needed a dramatic conclusion.
Should make for a good movie though:

We've had all kinds of planetary alignments before. Matter of fact, they're constantly in some kind of alignment to each other!
What does it mean, "the world will end"? Does that mean the planet will explode? Or an asteroid hit that pushes us out of orbit so nothing can survive?
Or does it mean that the structure of the human world--the countries, their governmental structure-- could end? Or all humans die but everything else live?
Observatories don't predict anything large hitting us that would cause us to go out of orbit. There is nothing to suggest the planet will explode. It's unlikely that every single government and society in the world will fall apart, and it's almost completely unlikely that all humans alone would die while everything else survives.
So no. I don't think it will end in 2012.

It's not about something bigger will hit us or any of that!
It's about the end of day, and this will happened sooner or latter, but no boody knows when, and no body will even know about it.

I don't think the world will end in 2012. I think the Mayans believed their calendar would end in 2012 and a new age would dawn. That could mean anything from the new calendar would be electronically based to a new dawning of consciousness for mankind, but the meaning will be fuel for any number of theories.

I highly doubt the world will end. It's bad terminology to use, of course - humans don't care if the world ends, they care if they as a species cease to exist.
As far as the world ending, I doubt a planet that's been around for billions of years is suddenly going to stop existing. As for the human species, I also doubt we'll die off in three years - we've dealt with industrialization, global warming, and the like for this long, three more years won't matter much.

This is a really impressive answer kyle! Humans are definitely like this, and I think that humans will always last as a civilization. Yet, if the Mayan's are right - then human life could disappear in the next few years.

If there is a beginning then there is an end. Regarding 2012, who knows? maybe tomorrow, maybe another million years~~
Well my opinion is we will never know when the end of the world will come. We can try and try but will never come to a correct conclusion. God is the only true one who knows the end of the world. When it happens, we will know at that moment. Until then it is all just speculation.
I agree with you! but what you will say if most of people are not believers?!
If they are not believers then Jesus will handle that. I bet when the end comes they will be believers then. God has a plan for believers and non believers. Until then we just have to live our lives.
I don't agree with that, Jesus will not handle anything, who do good is for himself, and who do bad is against him self! Thanks.
Exactly typrecious - we will never know. So then, could the end of the world be on December 2012?
It may well be and it is down to his decision.

The idea that the world is going to end in 2012 is superstitious nonsense.
The world is going to end on October 21, 2011.

I'm so glad you told me, I was going to work hard until 2011 and then party.
I'm sure somebodies will. It's always possible we will get hit by an asteroid we for some reason couldn't see coming. But why on earth dwell on it?
I think you should live for the here and now. Try to do your best to make yourself and everyone around you happy. Does it really matter if it's going to end then? Would you change the way your life is going?
Good Luck!

Definitely - let us enjoy the next three years when it lasts!

No, I don't think that people who had not yet invented toilet paper knew a lot about the future.
I would argue to say that if Mayan's were to live today, they would be cleverer than us. Why? Their sense of accuracy was incredible - better than of all the scientists in the last few centuries.
Their ways of experiments were slow but impressive and I would say they might be right about this 2012 prediction.

First of all, No One knows when is the end of the world!
All what you have to care about is your death, the Doomsday for each man is the day of his death, when his life ends and he is buried alone in a grave where he is reckoned for all his deeds.

Then at least if someone votes a question not helpful, I can ask them why. More than anything I want to know why people don't think answers like this aren't helpful.
Oh well.
I just want to let you know that I am the one who voted down for this question, and the reason is because I personally consider the idea of asking about the end of days is useless, I suppose that who ever ask about this issue probably he is a non believer of God, and I am a believer, so I am sorry if I marked this question as unhelpful one because it has no useful meaning to me, it's just my opinion about it.
Note: To be honest with my self I felt to add this comment.
You are probably right about the dramatic conclusion - do you really think the Mayan gods existed?
However, I will argue that the Mayan's were very clever. If you look at the video, their temples were very accurate in predicting events. They could predict solar and lunar eclipses and they knew about a "dark rift" in the galaxy - to which in 2002 they discovered was a black hole. So could they be right?
