1 year, 8 months ago about How Mahalo Dollars and Payments Work

Sooo, I see you can no longer cash out Mahalo account earnings to Paypal. Why?

Why is this? I don't recall ever getting any kind of email or anything stating that this was going to change... And honestly, the original reason I signed up for Mahalo was b/c of being able to cash out. Now, I do love the site and will stay regardless, but just curious as to why we can no longer cash out to paypal? I mean, I get the conversion that they had - each mahalo dollar was equal to .75cents USD.
Tip for best answer: M$1.00

You can leave an optional "tip" with Mahalo's virtual currency, Mahalo Dollars. If you are asking a difficult question that might require some research, or if you'd like a wide variety of feedback, a higher tip often leads to more answers to your question.

@jentyree - They announced the change on the site, but if you weren't looking at the site during that time, you would have missed it. When they announced it, they never really explained why they were making the shift. I wasn't a big fan of the change, because I liked the cash out option as well and it also seems that along with a limited selection, the "exchange rate" on the items in the store is lower than it was via Paypal. Since I don't have any inside information, I have to assume that the move was to decrease the cash being paid out and to lower some of the overhead costs of issuing the payments via PayPal. I do also think that they were trying to switch the overall model around a little in an attempt to improve the overall quality of questions and answers.

It would be nice if they improved the options in the store - @coreymac posted a question recently asking what we would like to have changed, so be sure to throw your comments there.

I am confused, when you answer a question it is written: "You can use Mahalo Dollars to fund tips on questions you ask, or you can request a payment via PayPal as soon as your balance exceeds 150 Mahalo Dollars. Each Mahalo Dollar is currently worth $0.75 when paid out via PayPal."
Either mahalo needs to update its website or you can still cash out via paypal.

Corey this page - http://bit.ly/cGyeXp still claims one can "earn money" with Mahalo Answers.

"Once you earn M$150 you are eligible to transfer all or part of the balance into your PayPal account. Remember, each Mahalo Dollar is worth $0.75."

I'll keep looking for other places someone might find that sort of statement.

Corey Everytime we answer a question we are told that we can cash out via PayPal.. I do not know how I missed that one.

And the link in that info box goes to http://www.mahalo.com/answers/tip_guidelines where at the bottom we are again told that we can cash out via PayPal.

Hi @qdietz, yes, this is an outdated page or message. Where exactly are you seeing it? Email me the details to corey at mahalo dot com and I'll send you M$5 for letting me know :-)

best,
Corey Mac

If I am not mistaken, it was $50 in order to cash out when I first signed up. But now i see it is at $150 LOL.

But yea, there is a blog entry, or somehow I managed to come across the page that stated the deadline to request cash out was like July 31.

I have no problem just using the Mahalo dollars I earn for gift cards, but there isnt a very good selection of gift cards. Maybe if there was also walmart, target, or like a visa, mastercard, or AmEx gift card option, then it would be worth it.

Hi Jen, I believe Jason did send out emails a few months ago when the changes at Mahalo happened. he gave us a time frame to cash out for cash, and the deadline has since passed. There were also posting on the subject here. Your M$ can now only be cashed at the Mahalo store.

There are a couple of ways to earn money here at Mahalo. You can apply to be a Mahalo Guide. Contact Mike Bracco for more information. You will need to fill out an application and apply. In a nutshell, Guides are required to write the "How to" and the coupon pages. http://www.mahalo.com/member/mikebracco

You can also make money on the Mahalo Guru team. You can contact Corey for more information on that. I believe there is a short application to fill out. http://www.mahalo.com/member/coreymac
