iTunes DJ - how to skip tracks on one click like party shuffle used to?

With party shuffle you simply unchecked a box next to the track. In new iTunes (Windows) you don't have that.

There are two options for you:

1. You can create a playlist of only the songs you want to hear. In the iTunes DJ menu at the bottom left you can select that place from the drop menu instead of Music.

OR

2. Click your Library > Music on the left navigation bar. From there select the shuffle button. Once that is enabled it will only play checked songs. I'm guessing if you didn't want to check/uncheck the main list, you could create a separate playlist with all of your songs, and shuffle/deselect/select that instead.

This is the shuffle button:

Sure, I know about playlists ;-)

I can do what you suggest in 2 but the problem is - you don't know what the upcoming sequence of songs will be (as you used to in party shuffle). Looking more closely I see that any self-made selection has the check boxes next to the tracks but DJ removes that (why oh why, Mr Jobs?). Also why not preserve the behaviour of the old party shuffle - in the new version its completely empty. Annoying.

Sorry, I can't think of anything else to try. The last resort? Downgrade back to the other version that you liked: http://www.oldversion.com/iTunes.html

Actually you gave me the inspiration to experiment further, this will work but not exactly the same as the DJ or Party Shuffle:

Select all the music and add it to the Party Shuffle playlist (that's close to your suggestion isn't it?). Now click the shuffle button and it re-sorts the playlist into a random order which it then plays track by track (with checkboxes).

Thanks for putting me on the right track.

However, the behaviour is not quite the same as played tracks on the old Party Shuffle used to go back into the "pool" and could come up again. Never mind, change is the only constant with software today.

You can also try setting itunes dj to draw from a smart playlist which only allows unrated or highly rated songs. Then just give songs you want to skip 1-star ratings.

Simple - Forget about Party Shuffle. Just select "Library" in the Source list on the left side, click the shuffle button on the bottom-left (the one with the crossing arrows), and press Play. You'll get everything in your library in a random order.

Sorry

I don't have a selectable library entry on the left - this is iTunes for Windows yeah? Also when I hit the crossing arrows I still don't get the option to check/uncheck tracks in the list.
