Does anyone know of a way to force links from IMs to be directed to certain browsers? For example Facebook to Opera and Youtube to Chrome?
I'm running Windows 7 and multiple browsers. Is there a straightforward solution?

In my experience, Kind of...
Well, I have not seen this for Opera and Chrome, but it can be hacked together with Firefox and IE.
Basically, you would set the default browser to Firefox. In addition, you install an IE View plug-in to Firefox. Then you set that plug-in to forward the desired domains (eg youtube.com) to IE while everything else will remain on Firefox.
Now, I only have experience with IE View Lite, but here are some plug-ins to start with:
- IE View Lite
- OperaView
- Chrome View
- Safari View Win

I don't know of a way to do this as of yet. The only way you could, is to set up a "browser" that you set as default that is not actually a browser. Basically a program that looks at the url and then launches the proper browser, passing the URL properly. This is because windows does not have a built in url parsing option. So either write a custom script, or get used to one browser.

Not really. In computers there's usually one browser set as the 'default' browser.
Opening a link will launch the default browser.

You can not control what programs open what files on someone else's computer via web code without taking advantage of a hack or exploit. It's for our protection and shouldn't be changed.
Only the user can set which programs open on click in their preferences.
If your link was to a file that was already associated with the program then it would open the program you specified. But most people (wisely) don't click on attached files - for what I hope is obvious reasons.

I know a potentional solution.
Chrome allows you to create a shortcut to the desktop for pages and of coarse with some google pages this can work with google gears so that the ajax code can even run offline. If its possible to do what your talking about in a browser and open content somewhere else your best bet is to find a firefox plugin/extension. And why Opera?
