What would you do if a stray bullet hit your house ?

I grew up in a very rough neighborhood, where at one time or another shooting rates where among the highest in the country. (Early-Mid 90's)

One night I was awoken by screaming, a guest that had been staying with us had heard gunshots ring out A short distance away.
We called the police and shortly after arriving at our home they swung into investigation mode.

Incidentally enough, I found out the next morning a stray bullet had hit our neighbors house lodging A bullet in the outside of their home.

So here is the hypothetical situation ....

You are home one night relaxin chillin with friends or watching tv.
(Simple joyful stuff at home)

And for reasons unforeseen, a stray bullet hits your window, door, maybe even your parked vehicle , hell maybe even shoots right past you.

*Hypothetically* what is your complete reaction until authorities have deemed the area safe...

Remembering that "cover from view, is not cover from bullets", put as much mass between you and the bullets.
ie. if bullet is coming in the front of the house, the back of the house would be safer.

That is a very good observation and interesting fact, another interesting fact is that "what goes up must come down".
Police and people with firearms rarely understand that firing a gun into the air is the absolute worst thing you can do.

The bullet actually comes down faster than it goes up.

Bullets fired into the air can be lethal, but they do not return to earth faster than their original (muzzle) velocity. One explanation here:

I would try to keep myself as low as possible, get to my family members, gather them to a safer place such as under the bed, behind dining table or rooms that are surrounded by other rooms and do not have windows. Most probably the dining hall, then go and bolt all the doors.

Ive had stray bullets graze by me numerous times... i used to live in a rough neighborhood for a few yrs of my teen's.

Homeless people, addicts, drunks, whatevers... you name it, they hung right outside my window. which is how most of the stray bullets came flying in.

I might be a little stupid but my reaction was to get outside and see what the f***/who the f*** is shooting. this was after the third time it happened, and made me angry to the point in which i went hunting myself. the first time i ran around the house looking for a defensive weapon jus incase someone tried to come running through the house.

immediately dial 911. Not panic, because I live in Bed Stuy Brooklyn, so it happens. Cooperate with the police with the small bit of information I have, but that's about it. I would feel just as safe the next day. This kind fo thing is such a freak occurence that there's no reason to fret about whether it will happen again.

I usually would call the police and hide myself in the bathroom with the dogs. If I call the police....guns are so frequently heard around here, most of the time one does not even pay attention. I went from carefully taking note of the time I heard a shot and calling 911 with a bit of hysteria to just turning my head on the other side on the pillow.

I'd imagine I'd make sure everybody in the house is alright, lock the doors get them all in one room (maybe in the middle of the house away from windows and doors to the outside) and then call the police.

Call the police, and gather everyone is the basement, where there's no ability for a bullet to penetrate from outside.

Hrmm.. found this link in my profile.

Just for s--ts and giggles i'll tell you guys what I would do.

First I would make sure I had my cell(s) on me (both of em)
Next I would dial 911 on both of them.
Then I would run into the fridge. No s--t the fridge.
It is the most hardened "room" in your home believe it or not.

Wait until police arrive and if anyone entered the house they probably wouldn't know where to find me.
