Do you think the recession will cause people to idolize "the rich" less? Is "rich" become unfashionable?

If you ask most people in the US what their goal in life is, somewhere floating in their mind is "to get rich."Shows on TV lionize worthless people simply because they or their families are rich. Celebrities (especially rappers) are proud to display their bling, such as fleets of custom exotic automobiles and private jets. CEOs are in the spotlight for making an average of over 440 times the average salary of workers (while simultaneously neglecting the interests and rights of shareholders). If American companies do not consistently grow, grow, and grow, share prices plummet (is it not enough to simply make a profit?).Do you think the current economic climate will cause Americans to reevaluate their priorities and expectations?

Probably so.

The industry I am familiar with is the music industry, and after the better part of a decade, the market for the selling of music has changed so drastically that folks are finally realigning their priorities. Fewer serious musicians strive to become rich and famous and instead have kind of come to terms with the fact that major labels do not give out million-dollar advances anymore...the more attainable goal being to make a modest living recording for a small label (or no label at all), pretty much managing yourself and booking your own tours, using online promotion to its fullest extent, and generally taking control of your own career...because very few artists can get someone to do so for them these days.

I guess my point is that the market and/or the economy seem to fully exhaust heydays like the one the music industry experienced through the Nineties (i.e. record companies typically selling albums with one good song for $18.99), and then things collapse and people come to their senses. That's the kind of trend I'm anticipating, albeit on a much grander scale than what the music industry alone has gone through of late...

If anything they will be idolized more! Most of those people who lost large portions of their money were not wealthy, but rich middle class who were lucky to ride on the wave of success, especially in the finance industry. These people got whiped out because they thought they were successful because they were good not because they were investing/working during a bull market.

A good example is Warren Buffet who is still making money and good deals now when most people have or are still losing money. This causes people to idolize personalities even more if they are still successful now. Especially after you lost 100 million dollars lets say, wouldnt you idolize those people more who have weathered the storm and steered their business through safe waters?
