They were Native Americans of East Texas.
Caddo civilization goes back more than a thousand years before the beginning of written history. There are indications that the culture of the Caddos was in some respects the disintegrating shadow of something that had once been spectacular.

Caddo culture developed as a regional variant of the Mississippian tradition in southwest Arkansas and in parts of Louisiana, Oklahoma, and Texas between AD 800 and 1100. Florida? Don't know. Read more here:
