The Cahokia were a warlike people, but out of necessity rather than malice. The expansion from their earthworked city was needed for resources to supply the people. Compared to some of the greater wars the world has known, these were minor tribal scuffles, but in the relative sense of things.. the Cahokia were a conquering wave, overtaking any tribe in the way.
Most of this of course in conjecture, as pre-columbian written history of the Americas is quite spotty.

Environmental factors, such as overhunting and deforestation, have been proposed for the city's decline and abandonment. Another suspected culprit is destruction by nomadic tribes moving into the area and wiping out the thus-weakened civilization. Diseases such as cholera and typhoid, with vectors facilitated by large, dense populations are other possible causes of the rapid depopulation of the Cahokia area. More current models propose political collapse as the primary cause of the Cahokian decline.

The group seems to be on the move, using tents to allow them to be mobile and follow the hunting prey.
